ANALOGOUS ORGANS AND EXAMPLES(CBSE 10TH)

 Analogous organs 

Analogous organs are organs that have different structure and origin but perform the same function in different organisms.

  • Different internal structure

  • Different evolutionary origin

  • Same function due to similar environmental needs

Examples:

  • Wing of a bat and wing of an insect
  • Both used for flying
  • Bat's wing has bones (mammal), insect's wing is a membranous extension (arthropod)
